A couple weeks ago, Vika suggested we go cherry picking. Cherries are in season right now and she didn’t want to miss the small window of opportunity to pick them while they were ripe and delicious. So this past weekend we drove from our apartment in San Francisco to Bloomfield Cherries in Brentwood, CA. Her friend Danielle and family were there the weekend before and said they picked some amazing cherries. I was especially excited because it was an opportunity to do a fun and casual maternity session for her. And at 36 weeks, it’s practically baby season in our household!
When we arrived, we grabbed our bucket and headed in. There were a lot of people there but the farm was so big it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The rows of cherry trees seemed to go on forever. Vika was dressed super cute with a pink long sleeve top, blue jeans and black shell-toes. She insisted on wearing her little straw hat and I wasn’t about to win any battle over it, so I just went along. In the end, her hat was a fun addition to her wardrobe.
The cherry farm was like a photographers gold mine with beautiful rows of trees, blue skies, a warm sun and insta-props I could incorporate in the images. Actually it was like the sun was playing hide and seek with us, dipping behind the clouds and popping it’s head out. Time felt like it stood still while we were there and I loved photographing Vika just doing her thing. She even took hold of the camera and captured a few fun portraits of me!
I’m super pleased with Vika’s images and I learned something valuable that I will try and incorporate into all my future sessions. I’m going to allow myself to play more and let moments unfold naturally like this did with Vika.
